Since its up for discussion...I too, have been a hardcore nail-biter for 25 years, and 
quit over the holidays this year...I now need to purchase a nail clipper for the first 
time in my life.  It is really nice to not have disfigured, scraped up fingers (I also 
was one to bite not only the nail, but the cuticle and basically anything below the 
first knuckle!)  My solution: I got a very small wart on one finger, and I was afraid 
it would spread if I didn't keep away from it.  The wart was gone within a week, but I 
have not had the urge to bite since then.
