This discussion has been pretty interesting - I love when I start these
things!  Thanks to everyone who's responded so far.

I do agree with you for the most part, Bob, and Mark certainly mentioned
quite a few other songs which have a similar feel to them as My Old Man.
The reason I specifically raised the question with Willy, is that I hear a
kind of wistful quality to the song, in both the lyrics, and the way she
sings them.  I know she was probably "soured" to the whole idea of marriage
after her break-up with Chuck, but I hear a kind of longing in her voice on
this one.  Maybe it's just that HE is the one saying he doesn't want
marriage (Graham Nash had just left a marriage too), instead of her, ie. the
control is taken away from her this time - she's not calling the shots!

But then we're also assuming all these songs are auto-biographical, which
may not be the case at all!

I don't know the answer, but I love hearing all the theories!
