Your guess is as good as mine. For me, it has always conjured up ripples.
Tapping the glass may cause a ripple or two, but I think of Marlena looking
down from her balcony and she sees three ripples in a swimming pool. Joni's
lyrics aren't that abstract that they are uninterpretable but they are
blurry enough round the edges to create an in-the-eye-of-the-beholder
interpretation. There hangs the beauty of her words.
