Debra, as always your comments are thought-provoking. I think part of Joni's subtext in ML is that these women are incarcerated/imprisoned because they were the objects of love/lust. THEY were the ones punished because of an unintentional pregancy, etc. I think she can relate to that on a certain level, that women are held to a standard that men are not. While the song obviously IS direct and works (very well) on a literal level, the allegorical level is very powerful as well. One of Joni's many strengths. Bob NP: Earth, Wind & Fire, "Fantasy"
