Hi, Kerry:

A few years ago, PBS aired a series entitled "The Story of English." You can
probably get video tapes of the series from any good-sized library, since I
was able to borrow them when I lived on Martha's Vineyard, which has a pretty
small library system.

This series is fascinating. It starts with the beginnings of English -- with
its Anglo-Saxon, Germanic and French influences -- and then chronicles how
this amazing language grew and mutated as it spread throughout the world. I
think it's one of the best series PBS ever produced, and it's "must-see TV"
for anyone who is facinated by the English language.

English killed Esperanto!
