Yes, I agree. It's interesting, though. Until recently I wrote exclusively in alternate tunings. The guitar really led my songwriting efforts and I was able to write more "blindly." Now that I'm trying to write more commercially acceptable material, and I'm using standard chords in standard tuning, I find I'm relying on my music theory/harmony training a lot more consciously. I'd be interested to know more about how Joni writes on piano vs guitar. (Yes, I know we just had a thread about her piano technique - very interesting.) I guess I'd like to "see" the writing moment when she first starts to compose on piano. And, with the availability of loops (Sonic Foundry being my latest toy), I'd LOVE to have loops of Joni-like piano! In the meantime, some loops are letting me think melody first, which is interesting. lots of love Anne
