Yes, Wally, I bet you are.
But if you had lived in the US during the late 60s and throughout the 70s,
you would have been treated to a constant diet of Shelley on talk shows.
Johnny Carson and Merv Griffin loved her -- loved her!
I've never seen "Steppin' Out," but I have seen "Alfie," and "A Patch of
Blue." Let's face it, Shelley is an incredible actress and the first former
sex symbol that I know of who had the cohones to grab character actress roles
and then -- well, she ran away with them. Shelley Winters paved the way for
people like Elizabeth Taylor to even consider roles like Martha in "Virginia
Wolf." (La Liz was in her early 30s when she delivered this Oscar-winning
performance.)
Shelley says that she was a roommate of Marilyn Monroe's, and that she
encouraged Marilyn to look into character roles before she died.
I guess Marilyn died in time to be an icon; Shelley didn't!
And I don't feel too great myself.
