Greetings all, This may be old news, so pardon me if it's 'tired', but I recently became aware of the track Shawn Colvin sings on the recent Chris Botti release "Night Sessions" - track 5, "All Would Envy". Shawn sounds so at home in this cocktail jazz setting, it's totally unlike any other track I've heard her sing - and it's amazing. Chris Botti's haunting trumpet playing adds much to an already lush arrangement, Shawns multi-layered vocals...I cannot listen to it enough! The song was written by Sting, and you can really hear that coming through...sounds like it's right off of one of his records, but Shawn does a much better job singing it that he could (IMHO). In the past, Jonatha Brooke appeared on an earlier release of Chris'...track was called "Forgiven" - also excellent. "All Would Envy" is a MUST HAVE for all Colvin enthusiasts.
I also recently came upon a very interesting compilation called "Cinemaphonic2", a collection of soul/funk/jazz instrumentals used in British television (I'm thinking mainly crime dramas) from '70-'76. Heavy on the wah peddle...infinitely funky stuff, but not for everyone. If you like that dated soul Superfly-esque sound though, check this out. -Chris "Quisquose" - Cocoteau Twins (Liz is going to give birth right here in my living room, or so it would sound). Yahoo!
