Are there any art photographers on the jmdl? I know
Joni has taken some brilliant shots in her time -
I wish I could reach her to tell her about London
Underground's current art photography programme -

I think I've mentioned before that until I "gave up
the day job" about 8 years ago, I worked at the
London Transport Museum in Covent Garden
publishing posters and books from their archives -
and, at the time, always thought how great it would be
if one of Joni's paintings could be commissioned by
the Underground (it certainly would have brightened
up my journey to and from work each day!).

London Transport has a long history of commissioning
top artists of the day to design art posters for their
underground station walls - the subway system is often
described as 'the biggest art gallery in the world' as
several million people use it every day) and they've
often employed top North American artists, including the
likes of Edward McKnight Kauffer and Man Ray in the
1930s and 40s, to try and brighten it up a bit and help
passengers pass the time while waiting for a train.

I would love to see some Joni snaps today - as I wend
my weary way.

All the best
PaulC (who still plays in the LT Museum staff's after-work
              blues band called 'The Relics')
