But last summer, I was in a retail shop in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where I was staying for a combination of professional conference and vacation. I lingered in this particular store for a while, and eventually realized that I was doing so because I was captivated by the album playing, which I couldn't identify. Turns out it was "Songbird." I already knew the story behind the album: namely, that it had been released posthumously, as a labor of love by Cassidy's family and friends. And so my joy at finding a new artist to discover further, and at learning the answer to my question, was definitely bittersweet. What a talent, though! I'm so glad we still have her wonderful recordings. Mary P.
