Interesting you say that...

When I met India Arie a couple of years ago, she, and my roommate Heidi,
were both playing in the popular Eddie's Attic shootout competition in
Decatur, where some 30 odd musicians compete against each other for one
thousand dollars and a chunk of studio time.

Most of the people I saw I was not particularly impressed with.  But India,
performed 
this beautiful ballad, just her and her guitar, and I just fell in
love with her 
voice.  I told her as much.  My roommate also played and I
thought she sounded awesome as well.  However, both of them were knocked
out of the competition fairly early on, losing to people I thought were
fairly forgettable.

I remember listening to another local singer, Tammy Fowler, talking to
her(India) later telling her how good she was and not to let the
competition discourage her.

Just goes to show you how much judges know.
