Well, I'm single and straight, and I listen to Joni!

Well, yes, on Sunday, I had corned beef and cabbage; and in the run-up to
the day, on Friday, I had Irish stew for lunch, and ham and cabbage (which,
I am informed, is more authentic) for dinner.

Well, the Russians do that. Traditionally, a Russian's given middle name
is a "patronymic," i.e., formed from the first name of the father. For
instance, the 1950s and early 1960s Chairman of the Council of Ministers of
the USSR and First Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union
(read: dictator), Nikita Sergeyevich Khrushchev, would have been called
"Nikita Sergeyevich" by anyone on a first-name basis with him (!), and his
middle name was "Sergeyevich" because his father's first name was "Sergei."
