gosh, all this talk about TTT ! it has certainly been of interest to hear exactly why people are not overly fond of this release. i've probably said this before but i feel it is worth repeating , when asked what is your favorite joni album i always reply , " whatever one i happen to be listening to at the time! " it really is true for me. i will say that after TI, which gets alot of airplay from me, i was just a tad disappointed in TTT. ( it quickly grew on me.) i can identify with some of the points made for and against the work as a whole. i beleive it was kakki who mentioned joni had wanted a lush orchestra for TTT, odd she should say this , i found myself wanting to turn up the volume when i played it thinking there was something in the music i was missing. ( ie. a distinction of the different instruments being played.) then i just settled on the opinion that it was just joni experimenting with her new plaything.( the VG-8 ) i personally do think the lyrics are wonderful. who wouldn't be moved by:
he wrote, " i wish you were with me here the leaves are electric they burn on the river bank countless, heatless flames ! " i said, " well, send me some pictures then and i'll paint pyrotechnic explosions of your autumn till we meet again i miss your touch and your lips so much... i long for your next embrace ! " i mean...i don't know about any of you but i've got gooseflesh going on here !!! i do think TTT has many strong points and they balance out the weak ones. some of joni's work is a little more realized than others , but what fun it is to go on any journey which joni wants me to take. i will say without joni i wouldn't have gone some of the places i been musically and my life would be less rich for it. again i will say my favorite joni album is whatever one i am listening to at the moment ! bring on the joni, warren keith p.s. for those of you who haven't heard cassandra wilson's new release i'd hardily recommend it ! ( if it weren't for joni i might have missed this wonderful artist ! )
