Hi everyone! I'm sort of new to this list so I apologize in advance if I'm
bringing up old topics. (I'm also a day behind.) The discussions have been
so interesting I just had to dive in!
I've always imagined "The Priest Song" as a story about Joni retracing her
steps that led up to her marriage with Chuck. I thought I had read somewhere
that she had married Chuck after only knowing him for a short while. And
with her unplanned pregnancy, she was looking for any possible way to make
it work. I pictured Joni and Chuck consulting the priest about marriage in
this airport bar and that Joni felt very awkward about the situation. ("and
my eyes said let us try") I felt she was expressing the doubt that ran
through her head (" which words was I then to doubt when choosing what to
vow" and "just as one loves more and more will one love less and less")
Perhaps she even felt a little bit of guilt after the marriage dissolved
("make them both confess").
I have a question regarding the picture on the cover of STAS. This has been
driving me crazy for years! Does anyone know when and where this picture was
taken? And what is she holding in her arms? It almost looks like a teddy
bear. And could those be maternity clothes?
