Dear Colin,
I am sorry to say that I am running out the door in a few minutes and I don't
have the time right now to give your post the attention that it deserves, but
I do have a moment to say this:
Your posts are one of the reasons the JMDL is the lively and unique place
that it is. More than any other lister who has left, I would miss you if you
weren't here. And of all the JMDLers I've never met, you are the one I most
look forward to meeting some day.
I have been having AOL e-mail problems lately, so I haven't been getting all
the posts from the list. I don't know exactly what happened to hurt you so
badly, but I will go to the JMDL site and check the archives for the past few
days next time I get a good connection and see what's been going on.
But I do know this -- people who post anything political or controversial
here do run the risk of being treated much more rudely than would be the case
in a face-to-face situation. I don't understand the dynamics of this
phenomenon, but I know that I have been guilty of it -- and the victim of it
-- more times than I care to remember. Personal attacks, however, are another
matter. There should be no place here, or anywhere else, for that kind of
treatment. I am sorry you've been treated badly.
And for the record, I think you're great. On-list and off-list, you've often
said things that have made my day, and I am grateful for that.
Take care,
--Bob
