There is currently a "punk" special of NME on the newsstands, and there is a
reprint of a great article about the release of Patti Smith's Horses. Im
paraphrasing here, but it is connluded with a statement to the effect that
(this is from 1975 rememeber) many fans of "good" music can easily accept
female artists with a passive intelligence (such as Joni Mitchell) but find
it difficult to accept the fericous in your face intelligence of Patti Smith
{i don't know how accurate an assertion that was, but there you have...}
IN Q magazine a month or two ago (can't remember) Boy George was asked to
list his five favorite gay albums. he listed Court and Spark. (also listed
tom waits and i think David Bowie too; i'm sure someone can check this out
easily enough).
