One of the things I like about Joni is her righteous anger, as evidenced in songs like Banquet, many selections on DED (Ethiopia, Tax-free, 3 Great Stimulants), No Apologies, Sex Kills, to name a few. It is like she is yelling at everyone to get off their butts and feel things (to quote Janis Joplin)and to see what the bigger picture is and ask what they can do about it. She is so honest in her anger; she does not hold back, and her observations hit their targets, often before anyone is aware of the problem. Look at Magdalene Laundries. While it is about nuns, the hypocrisy and unfeeling authoritarianism it alludes to could equally apply to the current Catholic crisis. I think I will write her in for president in 2004.
