well guys, i'm posting like a madman lately. i've got another quote for you
jim, this time from joni. when asked about being dubbed " old lady of the
year " by rolling stone in 1972 she replied. " oh, it was a low blow, and it
was unfair. i was not abnormally promiscuous, especially within the context
of the free love experiment, so to be turned on by my peer group and made an
example, made me aware that the whore/Madonna thing had not been abolished by
that experiment..." ( by the way, that's the religious icon not the
entertainer !) "...assumptions were made in interpreting lyrics, as they
always were, that this is so - and - so...all that nonsense that destroys the
ability of the listener to identify with a song. plus they were
misinterpretations. so that was painfiul and unnecessary, and rolling stone
had a policy for years after that to get me. " personally, i felt it did a
great disservice to joni as a musician and an artist, not to mention as a
woman ! such double standards still amaze me ! interesting to hear joni's
sentiments about speculation on who song lyrics are about, i can see her
point but inquiring minds want to know...

full of joni quotes,
