speaking of favorites who stand very close to joni...patty griffin is one of mine...
we saw her tonight at the troubadour...it was sold out...she was as good as promised...what an incredible voice...her band was her guitarist/mandolin player who helped her produce her latest (imo masterpiece), a keyboard/accordian player & a cello player...she did most of her new songs, & a few from each of her two other cds...& some from the never released silver bell...the audience went nuts & she did two or was it three? encores... thanks to kakki we got the inside scoop on a good place to hang since it was mostly standing room (almost got to the left on the stage kakki, we claimed our leaning place on the poles right next to the stage)... found out from her guitar tech what the magic tuning she plays rain in since i've only been able to do it in standard which doesn't quite work...can't wait to try it...i watched her fingers so i'd know once i found out which tuning... & maia sharp was excellent also (the opening act)...a great songwriter...she kept saying how excited she was to open for patty & that for a long time she was disgusted with the music biz because of all the stoooopid lyrics she was hearing on the radio...then she heard a patty cd & her faith was restored...well she kind of said it like that...i know how she feels... worth the drive to see her & patty even did a tom waitts song (ruby's arms) as a reward to jeff who went because i made him... ******************************************** Kate Bennett www.katebennett.com sponsored by Polysonics Discover the Indies at Taylor Guitars: http://www.taylorguitars.com/artists/awp/indies/bennett.html ********************************************
