I think they call it social engineering. Make sure there are plenty of people in abject poverty (there are) so you have a good pool of worker bees who will work for practically nothing. The standard of living now in the US is much lower than it was in the 1960's. Owning a home is an unreachable goal for a larger percentage of the population. Even renting one is impossible for many. One reason for this is that the minimum wage has not kept up with inflation. In 1973 the minimum wage was about $3.15. Now it's about double that. But the prices for everything have quadrupled! Hell, a pair of tennis shoes went from $8 to $80. Greedy multinational corporations have outsourced American jobs to third world countries, paying off our politicians for selling out the US workforce. Temp agencies help employers evade health care and benefits. CEO's carve out millions for themselves, and discard the remains- Enron is the tip of the iceberg. The fact is, European workers make more $, have longer vacations, get paid maternity leave, and better health care plans. In Japan, corporate executives are paid ten times more than the workers rather than 100 times more. Rather than breaking our arms patting ourselves on the back about how great we are, we should be demanding our country back from the thieves in power. Maybe next 4th of July? RR ps this is a beautiful country with alot of beautiful people and alot of good things going on.
