I was thinking about Clouds and haven't finished thinking about the album. I was inspired by Erica's comments and also Lori's. I decided to post some thoughts I wrote to Erica, with the hopes that maybe some of you may want to discuss the many merits of the Clouds album.
I have only just begun. . . . in my own mind. . . (to consider all that is beautiful about this album) Date: Mon, 8 Jul 2002 09:27:26 -0700 (PDT) From: Lori in MD <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Re: Subject: "Clouds" as a Coaster: A Cry for Inspiration Marianne wrote, about Clouds: >I love it in so many ways. You mean you love it from both sides, now??? ; ) Lori ~ :) I think clouds was one of my early joni albums. . ..so I have been around it for a while. . . Ladies of the Canyon, was my first. (I am 42) On Clouds, I love "Songs to Aging Children Come," (and everything else too). This song has actually been a lesson to me for a while . . . that we are merely all "aging children" so that when people make mistakes, or they behave in ways that we would rather have them not, let us remember that they are aging children.. . and so am I! "Aging children, I am one." That's kind of had a spiritual message that way for me. . . . helps me get along better and love better. And actually, now that I am looking at the words. . . . it is also a reminder that it is much more preferable to be an aging child than not. . . "people hurry by so quickly don't they hear the melodies in the chiming and the clicking And the laughing harmoniies. I don't know, this reminds me never to lose your child self . . . not rush around like an adult, as we do. Being in the moment, that kind of thing. So this is where I get back to Lori's (and Joni's) comments about loving/seeing it from both sides (now). Being "aging children" has two sides to it. The understanding of *making mistakes* side (neg) and the *being in the moment* side (pos). Didn't Ruth say something about Joni and duality? I realize my words may be somewhat hard to decipher. In the meantime, if anyone wants to tell me one thing (or more) that they like about Clouds. . . . . I would love to hear about it. Also, I am also inspired to hear about general things you see/experience from both sides. Anyone want to listen to Songs to Aging Children Come? There is even more in this song.
