You know Heather, I hope I have some influence with these kids. Alot of times they
are so damaged from home life that they won't let me in. There was this one girl in
particular, that I kept trying to find the key to. One day, after she had been
terribly rude to an adult on staff and referred to my room I asked her if she had ever
heard the phrase "you catch more bees with honey...etc". Her quick response was
"yeah, and have you ever heard that nice guys finish last?" To which I replied,
"Better I finish last than be disqualifed and not able to race at all." She had no
comebacks for this.

Why is it that many in our generation are more concerned with being their child's
friend than parent? When my kids do get upset with me I remind them that I have the
unenvious job of preparing them for reality. It just slays me listening to some of
our parents and their explanations for how they
discipline.

Any listers care to expound on this subject? You
don't even have to be a parent. I see kids every
day at my summer job who just run wild through this
huge home improvement store with no supervision
whatsoever. It scares the heck out of me!
