... but I have signed up to train for the 2003 Mardi Gras Marathon. (Oh sorry, I meant to ask -- were you sitting down?) Training begins Saturday, Sept 7, and will continue for 5 months. The marathon benefits the non-profit Whitman-Walker Clinic in Washington DC, which is the DC area's primary treatment facility for HIV/AIDS.
Statistics from the Clinic: http://www.wwc.org/hiv_aids_services/statistics.html Some of you may remember that I lost my brother Billy to AIDS in 1995. I'm participating in the marathon in his memory. Here's why I'm writing to you: Per the rules of the marathon, I need to raise $2,600 before Dec 1, 2002 to continue participating in the training program after that date, and to participate in the marathon. Part of that money will pay for my round-trip airfare and hotel in New Orleans during the marathon. The rest goes to the AIDS Marathon program and Whitman-Walker Clinic. Any amount you are comfortable giving will be appreciated. As I just mailed my registration today, I don't have the particulars regarding checks, credit cards, etc., but as soon I as receive my welcome packet I'll have that info. For now, your pledge to give will make my day. Please feel free to check out these websites for veracity: http://www.aidsmarathon.com/learnno.htm http://www.wwc.org/ Hoping you and yours are happy and healthy, Lori ~
