It was truly a one-of-a-kind/lifetime experience/show.
Martha, her cousin Lily (Anna McGarrigle's daughter) and Joel Jifkin
(who also appears with ALL of them on "The McGarrigle Hour"
CD/Video/DVD opened.
Then Teddy Thompson joined them for a few songs, and then ... Kate
and Anna did a whole set with Joel on fiddle, Jeff Hill (Rufus' bass
player filled in for Kate and Anna's who had fallen ill), Anna with 3
(three!) different accordians, Kate on piano and guitar.
Golden-throated and sublime set.
We had the great honor of sitting in on their rehearsal and sound
check in the afternoon.
Their plane arrived later than schedueld the night before ... so
rehearsal happened a few hours before the concert, and we watched
them put it all together.
Then the show...
After Martha's beautiful set, and Kate and Anna's amazing
performances and an intermission, Rufus came out, did new songs, some
Harold Arlen, and brought back various and sundry configurations of
his mucisal family, the tremendously gifted Jeff Hill on bass, Kate,
Anna, Martha, Teddy, and Joel and Lily, for many many songs.
Much banter and fun they had onstage and off afterwards, totally
amazing 'folk dynasty'. We are *so* looking forward to Teddy
opening and touring with his mum, Linda, this Fall.
