I wonder if a non-American can make a brief reflection? Way back in the early 1970s your wise and inspiring poet Gary Snyder, who has often stated his preference for defining place by natural boundaries, suggested the delightful name Turtle Island for your continent, a name "based on many creation myths of the people who have been living here for millenia, and reapplied by some of them to 'North America' in recent years". [See his best known book of poetry, Turtle Island, which won the Pulitzer Prize in 1975.]
A nice idea I think. John (Sydney) New DSL Internet Access from SBC & Yahoo! http://sbc.yahoo.com
