Picked up the new India Arie cd. I love the sound of her voice and like the production. So far, I really like "Can I Walk With You" the most. Overall, I think the songs on her first album are stronger and stand out to me more individually, where as on this recording, I am not as into the songs themselves as much.
I feel like she was trying really hard to create a really good followup to the first record and it just doesn't come across as subtlely. I think its great that many of her songs have really good messages, but the message ends up standing out alot more than the song in many cases. There's nothing on there quite as powerful as "Brown Skin" or "Am I Ready for Love." But she is very young and if she can get back to just focusing on writing beautiful songs then I think she will do just fine. Victor
