Today, in the local newsstand, I briefly saw the newest issue of "Rolling Stone." Now, as I am in the local public library, the newest one on the shelf is Issue 906, Oct. 3, 2002, and it's not the same one. Therefore, I guess the one at the newsstand is Issue 907, Oct. 17, 2002. The Joni content of this post is that, alas, there is no Joni content in the poll -- unless I managed to overlook it. I skimmed it quickly, but think I saw every album, and did not see any Joni Mitchell albums, nor any Charles Mingus albums. There was, however, a Miles Davis album. I use the term "album" as I believe the poll did: For the muscial content + packaging, regardless of the physical medium, vinyl LP, tape or CD. And, of course, the poll was a popularity contest by self-selected raters -- not experts, not critics and not a scientifically sampled poll. Change subject: This evening, if nothing goes wrong, I am going to a Jane Monheit concert. I believe Ms. Monheit has been the subject of commentary here before. She is sometimes touted as "the next Diana Krall" and, like Ms. Krall, is a jazz-and-more artist, sings and plays piano, cites J.M. as an influence and does a cover of "A Case of You." Ms. Monheit also plays clarinet.
