First, I'd like to say THANK YOU to those of you who have already contributed to my fundraising efforts! I've collected $1330 so far, which is more than 51% of my minimum goal! Your generosity is GREATLY APPRECIATED, certainly by me but more importantly by those who will directly benefit from your donations.
Here's where I am currently in this crazy endeavor: Training for the marathon began Saturday morning, Sep 7, at 9:00 a.m. I survived the initial 3-mile timed run and -- amazingly! -- did not end up in the slowest training group! Third from slowest, yes ... but hey! I'm 44, I'm going from 0 to 26.2 miles in five months, and I'll get there anyway I can -- even if I'm the last to cross the finish line! (Besides, I'll use any excuse to go to New Orleans!) In addition to myself there are 7 women in my pace group. Our pace is 16 minutes per mile, which translates to running for 2 minutes, walking for 3, running for 2, etc. I've already learned that it's actually more pleasant for me to RUN! We just finished our fourth weekend of training, completing 6 miles last Saturday. The distance will continue to increase by 1 mile for the next two weeks until we reach 8 miles, then we'll jump to 10, then to 12! After that we'll have a "break," falling back to 6 miles. Then it's up to 14, down to 7, up to 17 (!!), down to 8, etc. Apparently I've shown so much enthusiasm that my pace group has elected me "leader" -- which means I have to pay attention to the time and pace (we can't run/walk too FAST, either), but what it REALLY means is I have to arrive 15 minutes earlier than the rest of them! Think that was the plan? Hmm. I'll keep you posted on my progress from time to time. Meanwhile, my website is up and has already gotten 100+ hits (some of them from you)! When you have a minute, cruise on over to http://lrfye.lunarpages.com and check it out, and let me know what you think of it! Hoping each of you is well ... Love to all, Lori ~
