MTV was off limits to my son until he was 13 or so. It IS possible to give kids limits and tell them no. And more than possible, it's necessary. But it does require effort! The toughest thing is to talk to your kid's friend's parents to find out what their (and potentially your) child is exposed to. The most amazing thing I found out was how many parents had no problem allowing their kids to watch R-rated videos at 7 or 8 years of age. A 3-year-old watching MTV? Inexcusable.
