Nothing mean about it...and I know where you're coming from as that was
also my opinion for a long time. And of course we don't really KNOW for
sure, we can only speculate. However, we DO know that Joni as a writer is
neither obvious or simple! ;~)

It's almost harder for me to believe that she could just dismiss her
adoptive experience in her writing (or that writing "Little Green" allowed
her to completely process her emotions) than it is for me to think that it
became somewhat of a subliminal filter for her, and her interaction with
the world was in perspective to it.
