Not making any excuses for CMIAR - I play it quite a lot because I like it. I think it is uniformly artistic - especially difficult when the production is elaborate. To me, it has an artist's touch to it - not heavy handed and judgmental like DED, and not as uneven as WTRF (which I find to be a mix of the sublime and the boorish).
Really, those 3 recordings are not comparable - they are quite different as audio paintings. And, I like all three of them. Really, she has never made a lousy album - though I still do not 'get' Mingus, really. Speaking of the 80's albums - not one song from them in the PazFest tribute album. Maybe they are just too difficult to capture successfully, with all of the production aspects. Anyway, for those of you who have not yet ordered your copy (or 5) - what are y'all waiting for ? It's a really fun and fine recording - great job, Michael ! And it's a good cause ! No excuses everyone - if you haven't done so yet, time to get with the program. Bob S.
