>> I've already promised myself to get off my own ass and get involved with
the system (as much as I detest it), RIGHT NOW, so we won't have a repeat of
this tragedy.
Although it may be too late. <<

its never too late...you can affect change in so many ways, sometimes i feel
so powerless to i affect change in a big way, through govt etc, but i feel
very good about being able to do so in smaller ways... how is see it- you
never know how this might affect the bigger picture & i can feel good that i
am doing something to make the world a better place....i see it in terms of
a feng shui kind of idea...what you do in one area of your life (or the
world) can alter the other areas...i know you are also doing this lori so
take heart in that...

speaking of moving somewhere, costa rica looks pretty good! :~)

a friend who lives there recently sent me this info...what a completely
different outlook from that of the USA...

COSTA RICA DECLARES
"PEACE for NATURE"
May 8th, 2002, on the occasion of his ascension to the Presidency of Costa
Rica, the newly elected President of the country, Dr. Abel Pacheco de la
Espriella, has declared (de facto) Costa Rica as a country free of oil
exploration and exploitation and free of open pit mining.

Excerpt from the Inaugural Address of the President of the Republic of Costa
Rica:

"We will compete without destroying Nature because,
beyond the events of the moment,
our rich bio-diversity will always be a great wealth and we will preserve
it.

Before becoming an oil enclave, before becoming a land of open pit mining, I
plan to initiate a sustained effort to transform Costa Rica into an
ecological power.

The true fuel and the true gold of the future will be water and oxygen; they
will be our aquifers and our forests.

Before we declare peace among ourselves and we declare peace among all
nations; now we should declare a peace with Nature."
