Hi everyone, A rare post from OZ!
It goes without saying how disappointed I am that we may not see another album of original material from Joni. I was hoping her recent explorations into orchestration and reworking of familiar songs might have lead to a renewed enthusiasm and inspiration. In much the same way that Dylans two-album rediscovery of his folk roots in the 1990s resulted in two subsequent albums of great new material, Time Out of Mind and Love & Theft. However, if this decision of hers is indeed final, perhaps she might like to consider writing and publishing some poetry. It has often been said how well many of her lyrics stand up on the printed page and I feel sure she could produce a real stunner of a poetry collection. After all, there are precedents she could follow. The most obvious is, of course, Leonard Cohen who is highly respected as both a poet and songwriter. The Grateful Deads Robert Hunter is another great lyricist and a fine poet. I think Lou Reed, too, has published poetry and there are probably others I cant recall at the moment. Anyway, Id love to see a book of poetry by Joni Mitchell. It would help ease the immense disappointment at the prospect of no new songs. We need her voice in the world today just as much as we did back in the 1960s and 70s! Cheers, John (in Sydney) Yahoo! Web Hosting - Let the expert host your site http://webhosting.yahoo.com
