It's truthfully a very sad case study...take a 5 year-old boy, make him a multi-millionaire and an international superstar, strip him of anything resembling a normal childhood, and then see what happens.
I think a lot of his weirdness is simple arrested development, manifesting the childhood he never had in his later years and having immense resources to do in bizarre fashion. Amazing how many childhood stars become so screwed up...Shirley Temple ended up OK, but I can't think of too many others. Erica, your heroines Christina & Britney were once Mousketeers!
