In England, a "fag" is also a public school (what North Americans call a private school) term for a younger pupil who acts as a sort of servant for the boys in their final year. Each older boy will have a young boy who runs around after them, polishes their shoes, etc. You'll often hear older politicians say, "ah yes, young Blair. He was my fag at Eton." :-)
