FWIW i'd call my 1st crosscultural piece 'New Mohanam Varnam', stemming from the South Indian vocal group I was in at Wesleyan, 1963. I'm not crazy about JM's crosscultural efforts. They are dilettante and lazy. It could be the public eye has occasioned this misfortune, because her painting, shielded from this glare, seems to show discipline, a sense of history, and a wish to improve.
