I typically use reviews collectively; that is, if something is getting raves 
across the board (as was the case with Beck's "Sea Change") I'll go ahead and 
pick it up. And vice versa if I read a lot of bad reviews. BUT I do love a 
bunch of stuff that was not reviewed favorably and loathed some stuff that 
was highly praised.

I guess what I'm saying is that I'm somewhat of a sucker for the things. I 
used to subscribe to Record Review magazine
