If they just remastered they couldn't eliminate tracks. It would be like trying to take eggs out of cake. What they probably did was to use a computer and a noise removal program like Sonic Solutions "No Noize", "CEDAR" or Sonic foundry's "Sound Forge" to mathematically remove the noise. When used carefully these programmes can perform wonders on old masters. Indeed many classical labels even use them on modern masters to remove microphone and desk noise arising from distant miking and highly dynamic source material.
