Friends,

Some of you may know... our (San Francisco's) own Spencer Day has made it to the dubious yet lucrative spot of Finalist on the new TV show Star Search LIVE!, which will have it's FINAL show, THIS Thursday, February 6.

Spencer is gay, 24, incredibly gifted singer/songwriter in the genre of Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra and Judy Garland (!). He plays Thursday and Sunday nights at The Lush Lounge here in SF, and ... did an appearance at Garrin Benfield's G/L/B/T Singer/Songwriter series at the Bazaar Cafe last year (Walt: I think you were there...).

His competitor is Jake Simpson, who ... is also gay! How rare is that? the 2 top finalists in Star Search are both young gay men!

The 'win' is dubious, because...well...who wants to be introduced to the world by Arsenio Hall, and the drunk Naomi Judd, (yes, she has been piss drunk for each broadcast), the obnoxious Ben Stein...
but lucrative, as in, winner gets $100,000 ! and a Sony recording contract (well, I guess that is dubious too).

So...1/2 of the score is based on the audience online vote, which happens live, as soon as both contestests have finished their singing.

Spencer is in the Adult Singer Category, and this usually goes on as the last competition during the show, between the final 20 minutes.

The show is broadcast LIVE on CBS network at 8PM EASTERN TIME...
So...you all do the math, and figure out where you are on that time zone thing...
and...go to http://www.cbs.com/primetime/star_search/index.shtml . . .
Spencer is up against this cute Justin Timberlake lookalike, Jake Simpson, who does a Stevie Wonder singalike...in fact ALL he ever does at Blake's in NYC, are Stevie Wonder covers. Spencer is an original. If you've caught him at the Lush Lounge or at the Plush Room (where he'll be again with his fabulous jazz ensemble for a week in April)...you know he's the man. His original music is amazing.

So...get online at the LIVE broadcast time THURSDAY/TODAY!... when the "Adult Singer" category is up for vote *usually* about 40 minutes into the show, audience online voting opens for about 5 minutes..... and you *must* vote for both singers, rating them 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5, give Spencer that "5" and ... the other guy, that "1", and... you can vote as often as your bandwith permits. Just keep clicking! Just Do It!

Support our local musicians!

Richard
