2 recent senate remarks by senator byrd may be of interest to some here:

1) Senate Remarks: Reckless Administration May Reap Disastrous
Consequences-
"I have learned from fifty years in Congress that it is unwise to insult
one's adversaries, for tomorrow you may be in need of an ally. There will
come the day when we will seek the assistance of those European allies with
which we are now feuding. But serious rifts are threatening our close
relationship with some of the great powers of Western Europe."

Senate Remarks: The Administration's Dangerous Wartime Rhetoric-

"To contemplate war is to think about the most horrible of human
experiences. On this February day, as this nation stands at the brink of
battle, every American on some level must be contemplating the horrors of
war. Yet, this Chamber is, for the most part, silent -- ominously,
dreadfully silent. There is no debate, no discussion, no attempt to lay out
for the nation the pros and cons of this particular war. There is nothing."
