I gotta tell you, I have driven stick for years. My first car was stick, I
learned on stick, my current car, (a 97 Subaru), is a stick and now I'm sick
of stick. It's terrific for regular driving but last Fall I had "an
experience" in San Francisco while driving in the pouring rain one evening.
My daughter and I were showing my sister and her daughter some of SF when I
stalled on a hill. Even worse, I got distracted, shifted into 3rd and went
nowhere. It took quite a few false starts before I was back in operation. The
rest of the evening was spent calculating my hill crest approach time to
allow minimal hill side stopping.
I've gone from driving in SF with ease to just avoiding it flat out in my
Subaru.
On the plus side, it made it real easy for Santa - "just a new transmission,
please!"
