Cleverly argued and clear without any hysteria attached to it... I always am amazed at the folks on here who can scrabble through all the listings and pull points out and make them into some sort of sweater that is available in one size suits all...... The point of double standards is the one that struck me... it runs its sticky thread through so many aspects of our lives. Sly-eyed politicians, cover-ups about child abuse, the hand of the corporate giants stained with blood or at the very least suffering........ Check out Nestles overseas policy on baby milk......go find your own links but I try never to buy anything with a Nestle trade mark...... But double standards like anything else depend upon the society within which they are framed... Within France it is still common for a man to have a mistress..... who was the famous French President who had a second family alongside his married one? was it Giscard D'Estaing? anyway that is not considered a double standard there but a point of masculine pride!!! Smacks of having several pieces of pie and eating it to me.....and France is a supposedly devoutly Catholic country.... Please note I am NOT saying Catholics are bad here but it is a real case of double standard stuff.... in any society where religion and its position in the society are uphled by the people in power......, before this falls into some accusation of me getting at Catholics OK?...........the finger can be pointed at our "royal family". the queen as head of state has three divorced children.... gone are the days when state and faith can be breathed in the same breath...... And was our separation from the Catholic Chrurch about divorce in the first place............. I seem to think it was..... and he even chopped her head off afterwards!!! So thank you Pat for prompting me to put something on the list.... I shall now retire to my bunker... Lucy
