Today I saw Wally K -- The Original Good Time That Was Had By All -- again in
Boston.
Anyway, while listening to "Hejira" on my Walkman (Note: When I first joined
this list, I was a "Blue" guy -- must be a Smurf thang -- but now I am a
hopelessly hooked "Hejira" head), I took a walk to a bus and a bus to a train
and read The Boston Globe along the way. So what did I find in today's paper?
A Joni reference! So, without further ado, here's the blurb from today's
Globe TV section:
"'I *highly* recommend that you sign up for an *extreme* weight-loss program
*soon*.' That's the sound of the starmaking machinery on "American Idol,"
which takes on eight more semifinalists at 8 on Ch. 25."
I got off the Green Line at Prudential and went to meet Wally where he was
waiting for me on a bench in the Pru Center, outside Legal Seafood. Before I
could show him the Globe's Joni mention, he said, "I can't believe you missed
it. They were just playing "The Hissing of Summer Lawns!" (Insert "Twilight
Zone" music with Martian tunings here.) Sometimes I really do love the way
life does these things . . . Wasn't it Brenda who used to sign off her posts
with "Coincidence is God's way of remaining anonymous?" Well, He was a a real
boogie man today!
Later, we went to the new Virgin store and I found a CD by a group called
Little Charlie and the Nightcats with a song called "Dog Eat Dog" on it.
Could that be an undiscovered cover, Mr. Covers King? We also saw the Goldie
Hawn CD with "Carey" on it, and Ethel Merman's newly re-released disco album.
We did lots of other stuff, but that's all the Joni content for today! (I
think that's sufficient.)
Also, the people who have said they will be at Wally's brunch on Sunday,
March 9th are Anne, Ashara, Barbara & Chuck, Jody & That Guy, Maggie, Wally,
and me. Anyone else before I call for reservations? Newbies and lurkers,
don't be shy!

PS: Wally kept asking me where he could find a Jayo party . . . what the hell
is that? I thought it had something to do with Jennifer Lopez, but he says
no . . .
