A couple of examples for me...when some of Joni's "Clouds" songs were on the radio, I didn't care for her voice at all. It wasn't until C&S that she really grabbed me, and I pretty much got everything elsethat came after as soon as it came out, still steering clear of the earlier stuff. I was really lukewarm about Mingus when it first came out, but that's most likely because I was into punk rock at the time. Now I love it...thanks again to Ron for prompting for me to enjoy it many times this week! And of course, I've gone back and picked up & picked up on all that early stuff too, and love it as well. As for Hejira, I liked it when I first heard it - but I couldn't appreciate where she was coming from lyrically. Like you say, that comes with time & life experience.
