<< Chris While singing 'Amelia' with guitar and Pete Zorn (who I believe was in Fairport Convention) doing vibes was breathtaking. >> Hey, I saw Pete Zorn last night, playing in Richard Thompson's superb band at the Shepherd's Bush Empire. He plays vibes as well?? With RT he confines himself to baritone and sopranino saxaphones. And bass flute. And mandolin. And acoustic guitar. And soaring backing vocals. Oh, and on the Shoot Out The Lights album he plays... bass! Quite talented then. RT was on magisterial form, playing most of the new album, which sounds better with every play (and he's singing better than ever, *sigh*) and dipping into his inexhaustible back catalogue for a few rarely played gems (Missy How You Let Me Down, A Man In Need) and "greatest hits": Shoot Out The Lights, whose riff must be one of the most resoundingly terrifying ever committed to vinyl, and which tonight featured a truly demented mandolin solo from Mr Zorn; Al Bowlly's In Heaven, on which RT's solo on acoustic was worth the price of admission on its own; and there were more recent classics-in-the making like Razor Dance and Crawl Back Under My Stone. If there were any justice, this man would be feted over the world and have sales to match... Azeem in London NP: Pooka - Raum (so beautiful...)
