I didn't know it was him in THE FISHER KING. The one film that he appeared that had the greatest impact was in THE GREEN MILE. I remembered being puzzled why his performance in that film was not accorded an Oscar nomination. But then the Oscar rarely gets it right. His mouse-loving character in that film, plus his tragic death in the film just filled me with an unpleasant sort of aftertaste as it tells you that the gentlest of souls can experience the most excruciating of death.
Hope his death last week was not as excruciating. He will be missed.
