"Well this just may be a cover that I would actually enjoy. According to the
Pharmer's Almanac Vol. 3 (which is a book full of various Phish factoids,
setlists, tour stories, covers, etc) Phish covered Help Me on April 10, 1993
along with Sugar Blue (I don't know who he/she is) who sang and played the
harmonica.
"Now I was told a couple of years ago that Help Me is also the title of an
old blues song, but until I hear it I still think it's Joni's song, although
it's really unlikely."
"Help Me" was a blues hit by Sonny Boy Williamson in the 50s, and it's been
a staple of Van Morrison's stage show since the mid-70s (it appears on Van's
live album, It's Too Late To Stop Now, and he still performs it regularly).
Given Sugar Blue's appearance with Phish at that 1993 show, I gotta believe
it was Sonny Boy's tune they were playing.
