Hell, it's not weird at all. During the L.A. riots in 1992, several
long-time landmark buildings were destroyed. I remember watching many
places, such as old restaurants and theaters, that myself and many other
L.A. natives went to as children burn down right before my eyes on TV. They
may have been just buildings but there really was a lot of sentimental
memories attached to them for a few generations of people. Plus, buildings
in L.A. are relatively new, historically speaking, so it's not like we have
a surplus of these old places like in other parts of the U.S. Never thought
I'd feel so traumatized over the loss of inanimate objects, but I cried hard
for three days straight. It was almost like losing your own home in a way.
