<< Mark in Seattle who hopes you all will pardon this little bit of
 musing & rambling. >>

Great post, Mark, very eloquent as yours always are...

And the subject of trees is a bit of synchronicity...the street I live on is
lined with old oaks, planted back in the 20's. Greenville, SC used to be the
textile capital of the country, and the older homes on the street were built
for the managers that worked in the textile mill nearby (no longer in action).

Anyway, these oaks are now all huge and majestic, and provide a canopy up and
down the whole street - pretty cool, even though this time of year they drop
leaves so steadily it's like snow! Unfortunately, many of the newer people
moving in want to take down the trees since the shade makes it hard to grow a
lawn, and people here seem obsessed with having these lush yards! Our
neighbors across the street just cut theirs down this week.

Looking at the stump is almost like seeing a corpse. Sorta sad.

I also remember fondly our "picture-takin' tree" in Kwajalein. We used to
always go there when my shutterbug Dad wanted to take pictures of us kids. I
think it was a banyan tree, but it had these great gnarly branches great hor
hanging and climbing and all kinds of poses.

I hope it's still there!

Bob
