Definitely - my favourite tree is a totara, which is a NZ native podocarp
(conifer), and they can live as long as 800 years - one huge specimen still
standing is believed to be 1800 years old.
Incidentally, has anyone ever literally hugged a tree, preferably one that's
warm from the sun? It needs to have the right sized truck, ie. not too
wide, so you can get your arms around it. Call me weird (again) but it's
definitely one of life's nicer experiences!
